Sans the music stores, of course, but then again, it could grow to work with Linspire’s MP3tunes, or with that other store that uses OGG, whose name escapes me now. Then, it will be pretty much up to par with WMP, iTunes and MusicMatch. The main features missing for normal-to-advanced users are CD burning, and visualizations. Truly, it is not exactly eye-candy, but it is not a pain to the eyes either.

 (Actually, I don’t because there’s no reason to as the evidence would indicate that most people chatting on the Internet are idiots/brain damaged/children/uneducated-just take a quick look at YouTube comments.)Īs for visuals and junk, sure they’re nice, but they’re not practical. This software seems to have almost all of the power and flexibility of Windows Media Player, while not being as resource intensive.

I don’t use chat or IM apps because I have no friends anymore. The only time I use anything else is when I want to speed up a song, then I use a bare config of Winamp with Pacemaker. XMPlay is the audio player for me! It’s the µTorrent of audio players (well, the other way around).

Today I use VLC for viewing videos, using MPC for instances where I need frame-stepping.

One reason I avoided SP2 was because it forces you to upgrade to the crappy WMP9. However I reserve it for just WMVs (that other players don’t do as well with). WMP8 is surprisingly forgiving of badly formatted videos and can play ones that others can’t. I have always hated Real for having such a crappy app and crappier media. Then it got into the hands of silly people (back in University we mocked the girls in the next room for using ICQ to chat with each other when they were sitting three feet apart.) I used it way back when and it was fun (apparently low ICQ #s are now a commodity , but I’m keeping mine). The exact same situation occurred with ICQ. MP3s became ubiquitous and everyone started using Winamp then it changed… for the worse. Then the Internet became accessible and everyone and their goldfishes jumped on and flooded it.
#WINAMP PACEMAKER ALTERNATIVE MODS#
MP3s were new, just replacing MODs, so WA wasn’t just the best player, it was practically the only player (okay, there were others, I liked Open Cubic Player, but that was better for MODs and such). I used Winamp when it was brand-spanking-new mainly because it was the only game in town. GanjaStar, what are those fractal pics from?

Stopped using winamp when i stopped be amazed at my own winamp skins, and when winamp 3 came out, although i Used to love the milkdrop plugin, but only ever used it to show people, i mean you don't have a crazy motion desktop when your using the computer as you can't really see it.wonder if that works with vista's aero tho?Īlso remmeber using a P75 quite sometime ago, and winamp took up too much cpu time, computer was irrating, can't remember what itwas called but i remember this lesser known mp3 player which used hardly anyresources, could play music in the background and still use computer with no slowdowns! and could use winamp skins, no idea what it was, but it was very well written!

Hrm, i just use wmp, i like how it minimise to the start menu with its own little toolbar, that and the fact i got fedup with winamp years ago and other alternatives, i found its cool at first, but at the end of the day a codec pack will just allow you to play any, its just simpler, and i like with wmp how you don't need to install anything, it just works, plug in an mp3 player (except ipods of course) and it just picks it up (provided you can view the drive in explorer) sync's music quickly, downloads cd information and arranges everything into neat little folders, only thing i don't like is how much memory it uses but i can't complain since i'm using vista, and why do we have quad cores with 16gig of ram and then look for the smallest footprint media player.
